Heron Rookery on the East Coast
is right here in Nanjemoy, with
over 700 nests! Charles County is
home to the second-largest Bald
Eagle population in the state.
Once dubbed “Maryland’s
Little Vegas,” Waldorf hit the
jackpot in the 1950s when slots
outpaced tobacco as the area’s top
moneymaker. The town drew East
Coast crowds along with big names
like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.
Have you heard the 200-year-old
legend of Port Tobacco’s Blue
Dog? It’s said that a ghost hound
eternally guards the buried gold of
its master, Charles Thomas Sims,
who lost his life during a robbery at
Rose Hill in Port Tobacco, Maryland.
