OUTDOORS
A PEDALING PARADISE
Whether you want to outpace your bicycle club on
a two-day tour or you’re seeking a fun getaway with
your biking buddies, we have the routes, restaurants,
lodging, and attractions to make your cycling excursion unforgettable.
Meander through time and nature in South County at Point Lookout State
Park, stopping for a cold one with the locals at Buzzy’s Country Store. Or
explore the quiet, slow roadways of St. George Island and fuel up on fresh
seafood at Ruddy Duck before pedaling on to Piney Point Lighthouse.
If you prefer to ride off-road, the adventurous can test their skills on
the rugged loop around St. Mary’s Lake, or the more leisurely rider can
set their own pace on the non-motorized Three Notch Trail, stopping at
Southern Trail Distillery or The Barns at New Market along the way. And
every fall, super-cyclists and new riders confront routes up to 100 miles
long on The St. Mary’s Century. With no shortage of historical places to
explore and beautiful vistas and water views around every bend on our
pastoral peninsula, St. Mary’s invites you to get on your bike and RIDE!
CAMPING
Take your family from screen time to green time
and make memories together!
Book a campsite on the beach or stay in a waterfront
cottage at Camp Merryelande on St. George Island.
Park your camper or put up a tent at Take It Easy
Campground in Callaway. Take a dip in the pool
after a day spent exploring.
Fish for your dinner on the dock at Seaside View
Campground in Ridge.
DID YOU KNOW?
GOLF
Blame the fantastic water views
if your score isn’t up to par on the
18 holes at Wicomico Shores or
Breton Bay Golf and Country Club.
Oyster shells, one of the Bay’s most
valuable natural resources, are becoming
increasingly scarce. The Chesapeake Bay
Foundation works with restaurants and events
in St. Mary’s and across the state of Maryland
to recycle used shells. The shells are cleaned,
cured, seeded with baby oysters, and
planted back into the Chesapeake Bay.
